Over 40 elected officials or their representatives engaged in crucial discussions with SCWA on drinking water issues. The forum served as a platform to address topics such as emerging contaminants, aging infrastructure, advanced treatment systems, lead service lines and efforts to connect homes to the public water system.

    Major Water Distribution Project underway in Huntington Set to Improve Reliability

    Jan 31, 2024

    A substantial water main replacement in Huntington by the Suffolk County Water Authority is currently underway. On roads near West Main Street, more than 4,600 feet of old, undersized water main will be replaced with larger ductile water main. The new 12-inch main will increase water flow in the system, allowing SCWA to provide a more reliable, efficient service to its customers in the area.

    Suffolk County Water Authority Customer Surveys Yield Overwhelmingly Positive Results

    Last summer, the Suffolk County Water Authority partnered with Probolsky Research to perform transactional surveys with its customers, which have been ongoing ever since. Within 24 hours of their interaction with SCWA personnel in the Contact Center, Field Services, Meter Shop and New Service departments, customers are asked a series of questions pertaining to their satisfaction with the service they received from staff.

    Suffolk County Water Authority Chief Executive Re-Appointed to National Drinking Water Advisory Council

    The National Drinking Water Advisory Council (NDWAC) has reappointed Suffolk County Water Authority Chief Executive Officer Jeffrey Szabo to its membership. NDWAC, a federal advisory committee, provides advice and recommendations to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) on national drinking water programs. Szabo's two-year term began on December 16, 2023, marking his first re-appointment to the council.

    Water Distribution Projects in Babylon Set to Improve Reliability

    The Suffolk County Water Authority announced that four projects have been completed in October to improve the distribution of drinking water in the town of Babylon. The slew of projects replaced water mains that were prone to breaks or undersized. New ductile iron, PVC and copper water main that is appropriately sized for the areas will ensure that customers have reliable service of high-quality drinking water, and a robust network of hydrants are available for fire protection.
