The Suffolk County Water Authority mobilized to replace approximately 1,900 feet of old water main on Rollstone Avenue in West Sayville. The existing water main has reached the end of its useful life and will be replaced with new ductile iron water main. This project will improve the distribution of water, water pressure and fire protection in the area. In 2022, SCWA replaced more than 1,500 feet of aging water main on nearby Atlantic Avenue in response to rusty water complaints from customers. The replacement on Rollstone Avenue is the latest in a multi-year effort to improve water quality in the West Sayville area that will continue.
“The Suffolk County Water Authority is addressing the needs of our customers with projects in the West Sayville area,” said SCWA Chairman Charles Lefkowitz. “This project, along with others in recent years, will ensure that we are delivering the high-quality water that our customers expect of us. When we are alerted to a problem, SCWA will take action to see it resolved.”
Rollstone Avenue runs from the Long Island Railroad tracks in the north and nearly reaches the Great South Bay in the south. It provides access to numerous businesses, West Sayville Christian School, West Sayville Golf Course and the Long Island Maritime Museum. Dozens of homes line the street as well, making it so that locals and visitors alike will see the benefits of this project.
The project is expected to be complete in early March.
