The Suffolk County Water Authority hosted a forum for elected officials on January 26th at its Education Center in Hauppauge. Over 40 elected officials or their representatives engaged in crucial discussions with SCWA on drinking water issues. The forum served as a platform to address topics such as emerging contaminants, aging infrastructure, advanced treatment systems, lead service lines and efforts to connect homes to the public water system.
Suffolk County Executive Ed Romaine, who emphasized his longstanding collaboration with SCWA in extending public water to communities in need, delivered the keynote address. Romaine shared insights into his extensive history of working with SCWA, particularly in the expansion of high-quality drinking water to areas like Mastic and Manorville. Romaine reaffirmed his partnership with SCWA to continue the mission of delivering safe and reliable drinking water to residents throughout Suffolk County.
County Executive Ed Romaine stated, “I am a proud friend of SCWA and its mission of bringing high quality drinking water to Suffolk County’s residents. I have seen firsthand throughout the County the difference SCWA makes in the lives of its customers. I know by working together we can continue to ensure every resident of Suffolk has access to this vital resource.”
SCWA Chairman Charlie Lefkowitz expressed gratitude for the strong turnout of elected officials at the forum, emphasizing the importance of collaboration in addressing the challenges faced by the water authority. Lefkowitz stated, "I am proud to say that the Suffolk County Water Authority is one of the best drinking water providers in the nation. We couldn’t achieve that without the continued partnership with our elected officials.”
CEO Jeff Szabo echoed these sentiments, thanking attendees for their participation and dedication to working alongside SCWA. Szabo stated, "This forum is a testament to our commitment to working with our stakeholders and being responsive to the public. Collaborating with our elected officials ensures that Suffolk County residents continue to have high quality drinking water."
