Crew members excavate a trench in Patchogue to install 1,400 feet of new ductile iron water main.
The Suffolk County Water Authority recently completed a major water main improvement project on Shaber Road, Louis Avenue and Clinton Avenue in Patchogue. Approximately 1,400 feet of new, larger ductile iron water main replaced the aged, and undersized cast iron water main. As a result of this project, the surrounding area will see improved water distribution and pressure, as well as fire service.
“Ensuring that customers’ homes receive high-quality drinking water is our foremost priority at the Suffolk County Water Authority,” said SCWA Chairman Charles Lefkowitz. “With hundreds of homes in this area dependent on our water mains, it is crucial that we are delivering high quality water in an efficient manner. Projects like this assure residents rest that their water service remains in excellent condition.”
Although it lies between two of the village’s largest thoroughfares with numerous commercial locations, this area of Patchogue is primarily residential. After decades of service, these water mains outgrew their useful life. Main replacement ensures that these homes receive proper water service. The durability of these water mains means that customers will have little to worry about in the way of water service interruptions for years to come.
