The Suffolk County Water Authority announced that it completed a major replacement of water main in the Bay Shore area. More than 1,500 feet of outdated cast iron water main has been replaced with ductile iron pipe on East Lakeland Street

Cast iron water main has a much shorter useful life compared to the newest technology. As it ages, it becomes prone to breaks that can disrupt water service and quality. The new main will ensure that customers have reliable service of high-quality drinking water. This project is part of SCWA’s long term plan to address aging infrastructure in its drinking water network.

The Suffolk County Water Authority continues to stay a step ahead. We are being proactive and replacing water main before we face a catastrophic break,” said SCWA Chairman Charles Lefkowitz. “Our customers expect that when they turn on the tap there will be a strong supply of clean drinking water to their home. It’s our mission to make sure that is always the case, and we are delivering.
