Summary:
Working with Suffolk County Water Authority’s General Counsel, SCWA Attorneys have the responsibility of providing legal counsel and advice on wide ranging legal issues. The position is responsible for performing legal research; preparing legal memorandum; assisting in municipal transactions and litigation, including preparation, review, and term negotiation for contracts for goods and services, insurance and risk transfer provisions; real property acquisition, sale, or condemnation; tort matters, spanning from small claims to federal matters; land use issues; local, state, and federal, regulatory review and compliance; legislative review and drafting proposed legislation; administrative matter; labor, including PESH, employment, and collective bargaining matters; and corporate governance. Significant municipal experience and strategic guidance capability a plus. Intellectually nimble and curious candidates are encouraged to apply for every day presents a novel issue. This position will be on site in our Oakdale office from 8:30am-5:00pm, Monday-Friday.

Description:
Responsibilities include:
- Work with General Counsel on all legal matters.
- Provide legal counsel, advice, and representation to staff.
- Review and provide interpretation on complex, important or highly technical laws, rules, or regulations.
- Assess risk and recommend solutions on all assigned cases.
- Conduct legal research/investigation and demonstrate effective and persuasive legal writing and presentation skills.
- Draft motions, briefs, and other file documents.
- Conduct all facets of litigation.
- Stay updated on relevant laws and regulations to provide accurate and effective legal counsel.
- All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree and law degree required.
- 5 years of legal experience with demonstrated successful municipal litigation practice, 5-7 years of legal experience with at least 2 years with a governmental entity or significant representation of government entities highly preferred.
- New York State Law License is required, admission to federal court bar Eastern District of New York preferred.
- Working knowledge of several areas of law required including municipal, environmental, real estate, contract, civil procedure, and labor laws.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage and prioritize a variety of tasks is essential.
- Strong collaborative skills are essential, working with a team of professionals.
