(Left to Right): Islip Town Supervisor Angie Carpenter and SCWA Deputy CEO for Customer Service Frank Tassone

Suffolk County Water Authority Deputy CEO for Customer Service Frank Tassone joined Islip Town Supervisor Angie Carpenter at Town Hall to mark the donation of a new SCWA-provided water fountain and bottle filler, now available for public use.

The new fountain provides convenient access to high quality drinking water from SCWA and includes a built-in bottle filler, allowing residents and visitors to easily refill reusable bottles—offering a more affordable and environmentally friendly alternative to single-use plastic water bottles.

SCWA’s donation is part of an ongoing program to provide municipalities with modern water fountains to increase public access to drinking water and reduce reliance on disposable plastic. Single-use plastic bottles contribute significantly to plastic waste and have been found to contain microplastics, which can pose risks to human health. By contrast, SCWA’s water is not only rigorously tested and of high quality, but also about 1,000 times less expensive per gallon than bottled water.

“We’re proud to support the Town of Islip and make it easier for residents to access safe, reliable and affordable drinking water,” said Mr. Tassone. “Programs like this help reduce plastic pollution and remind people that the best drinking water is already coming from their tap.”

Supervisor Carpenter expressed her appreciation for the donation: “We thank SCWA for this generous contribution and for their unwavering efforts to continually support our community. Making it easier for employees and residents to fill up reusable water bottles not only benefits our environment, but improves overall health with increased water consumption, and limits the use of single use bottles that can contain harmful BPA.”

While SCWA donates the device, municipalities are responsible for the installation and ongoing maintenance of the fountain.
