SCWA Board Chairman Patrick G. Halpin and members of the Shinnecock Nation Council of Trustees toured the project site today, as SCWA contractors worked to install approximately 1,250 feet of new water main along Deer Trail Road at the Shinnecock Reservation in Southampton.
The installation, expected to be completed around January 13th, bridges the gap between existing SCWA water main on Old Soldiers Road and exiting water main on W. Gate Road in order to provide water service to a new housing complex currently under construction.
“This project will not only supply new homes but will end up improving water quality throughout the Shinnecock Reservation by connecting their network of underground water main together,” said Chairman Halpin. “I’m glad we were able to get this done for the Shinnecock Nation. Making sure all residents in Suffolk County have access to high quality, reliable drinking water is our core mission at SCWA, and its importance cannot be overstated.”
"The SCWA did an outstanding job working on the Homeless Transitional Housing Development. From the contract work, the men in the field and subcontractors, all were, kind, courteous and professional," said Shinnecock Nation Housing Director Phillip Brown. "The crew laying the pipe, performed some of the best work, from start to clean up, that I have seen in my forty years of construction."
The Suffolk County Water Authority is an independent public-benefit corporation operating under the authority of the Public Authorities Law of the State of New York. Serving approximately 1.2 million Suffolk County residents, the Authority operates without taxing power on a not-for-profit basis.
