The Suffolk County Water Authority is in the process of replacing more than 2,200 feet of water main with new and larger water main on Bridgehampton-Sag Harbor Turnpike, a move that will increase water pressure and improve fire protection in the area.
SCWA contractors are replacing existing water main with ductile iron pipe, which is far more resistant to breaking and expected to last well over 100 years. The project, between Montauk Highway and Narrow Lane, is also being held in conjunction with a Suffolk County Department of Public Works reconstruction/drainage project, which will save SCWA and its ratepayers money on final restoration costs.
“This project is part of SCWA’s long-term plan to replace aging infrastructure,” said SCWA Chief Executive Officer Jeffrey W. Szabo. “Residents of the area and local businesses will see the benefit of better fire protection, better water pressure and water main that is far, far more resistant to breaks.”
“With the completion of this project, our community will be better served and better protected by an improved capacity for fire response,” said New York State Assemblymember Fred Thiele. “I applaud the SCWA for acting expeditiously to make these needed investments to fix our aging infrastructure and give home and business owners peace of mind.”

The Suffolk County Water Authority is an independent public-benefit corporation operating under the authority of the Public Authorities Law of the State of New York. Serving approximately 1.2 million Suffolk County residents, the Authority operates without taxing power on a not-for-profit basis.
