First Meeting Held
 
The Long Island Commission for Aquifer Protection, or LICAP, began its work this week with an organizational meeting held at Suffolk County Water Authority headquarters in Oakdale. The Commission, created by unanimous votes in both the Nassau and Suffolk Legislatures, will study ways to safeguard the aquifers underneath Long Island. The Commission is required to supply a State of the Aquifer report within one year and a Groundwater Resources Management Plan within three years.
