With frigid temperatures coming early this year, the Suffolk County Water Authority would like to remind homeowners and businesses to shut off water to hose bibs and insulate pipes that are vulnerable to freezing.

"A few precautionary measures can save you a significant amount of money repairing burst pipes," said SCWA Chief Executive Officer Jeffrey W. Szabo.

Once water to a hose bib has been shut off, it’s important to also open up the outside faucet to allow any water left inside to drain out.

SCWA would also like to remind customers to keep hydrants in their neighborhoods free of ice and snow so firefighters can connect equipment without delay.

The Suffolk County Water Authority is an independent public-benefit corporation operating under the authority of the Public Authorities Law of the State of New York.  Serving approximately 1.2 million Suffolk County residents, the Authority operates without taxing power on a not-for-profit basis.
