Description:

The Suffolk County Water Authority currently seeks a Facilities Manager to manage the day-to-day operations of the Facilities Department. Reporting to the Director of General Services, the position will be based in Oakdale, NY. The Facilities manager is responsible for all maintenance and minor construction activities at all Authority-owned campuses.

Duties include but are not limited to the following:

  • Diagnose problems with buildings and properties and develop solutions for repair.
  • Assess all work requests for validity and determine how the task will get completed.
  • Maintain a system for the proper cleaning, maintenance and repair of Authority properties and buildings.
  • Inspect all building systems (HVAC, Plumbing, Electrical etc.) on a routine basis to identify future maintenance needs, upgrades or modifications.
  • Implement training methods and safety practices for maintenance staff.
  • Oversee preventative maintenance program.
  • Maintain and analyze data to improve department efficiency.
  • Develop technical specifications for contracts and request for proposals.
  • Develop facility related cost saving and return on investment initiatives.
  • Develop relationships and communicate with other Authority departments.
  • Evaluate work quality of staff, direct reports, and contractors/vendors.
  • Develop and implement budgets which identify and prioritize needs of the Authority and its infrastructure.
  • Work with Facilities Project Manager to identify and resolve infrastructure issues.

Requirements include:

  • 3 years’ Supervisory/Managerial experience in Facilities and/or building maintenance including HVAC, custodial services, landscaping, plumbing, electrical and construction (union environment preferred).
  • Bachelor’s degree in Facilities, Engineering, or related field preferred.
  • Budget management and reporting experience as it pertains to Facility Management.
  • Experience managing 3rd party Facility Vendors/Contractors.
  • Ability to read, create, and implement high level reports and presentations.
  • In depth knowledge of best practices as it related to Facilities Operations.
  • Professional demeanor with excellent communications skills (written and verbal).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, BMS, and CMMS (SAP experience preferred).
  • Standard NYS Driver’s License required.

Applicant’s typical work schedule will be Monday - Friday 7:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Schedule is subject to change based on operational needs of department.  Salary for this position will be commensurate with experience. Suffolk County residency is a requirement.
