The Senior Systems Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, securing, and maintaining enterprise IT infrastructure, ensuring system reliability, scalability, and compliance with industry standards. This role requires deep expertise in virtualization, cybersecurity, compliance frameworks, and system administration for both Windows and Linux environments. The Senior Systems Administrator will collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimize system performance, manage security policies, and support technical initiatives. This position will be on-site in our Oakdale, NY office.

Description:
Responsibilities include:
- Design, implement, and manage enterprise virtualization environments using VMware.
- Apply cybersecurity best practices and ensure compliance with IT security frameworks (CMMC, ITAR, NIST).
- Configure, manage, and secure Windows Server and Linux systems.
- Implement and manage Active Directory (AD), including SSO, MFA, and Group Policies.
- Develop and propagate Group Policies (GPOs) using Microsoft Intune for compliance enforcement.
- Administer privileged access management tools such as CyberArk.
- Configure and manage Windows Defender and other endpoint security solutions.
- Manage and configure Exchange 365, including applying filters, rules, and handling mail security.
- Configure and administer Web Application Firewalls (WAF) or similar technologies.
- Monitor and maintain virtual machines and storage resources to ensure high availability and performance.
- Perform system validation, including development of criteria and evaluation of results.
- Prepare technical documents, management reports, and conduct technical presentations for planning, implementation, and corrective action.
- Conduct trade studies, risk assessments, and provide technical recommendations for system architecture and IT solutions.
- Design, implement, and manage backup architectures, ensuring data integrity and disaster recovery readiness.
- Evaluate the current Linux architecture, identify gaps, and design secure, scalable solutions.
- Develop, maintain, and improve process automation scripts and utilities using BASH, Python, PowerShell and other programming languages.
- Provide engineering support for system lifecycle processes, including acquisition, development, integration, sustainment, and deployment.
- Ensure system reliability by analyzing factors such as affordability, safety, maintainability, testability, and regulatory compliance.
- Identify improvements in planning, risk management, and technology readiness assessments.
- Troubleshoot and resolve cross-functional technical issues to ensure operational efficiency.
Qualifications:
- 7 years of experience with enterprise systems, 10 years preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science required, Master’s degree preferred.
- Expertise in virtualization technologies (VMware) and cybersecurity best practices.
- Strong knowledge of IT security frameworks (CMMC, ITAR, NIST) and compliance standards.
- Proficiency in Active Directory, SSO, MFA, Windows Server, and Linux administration.
- Strong scripting and automation skills using BASH, Python, PowerShell, and other relevant programming languages.
- Experience with privileged access management tools and endpoint security solutions.
- Proficiency in backup and disaster recovery technologies, methodologies, and best practices.
- Solid understanding of networking concepts, firewall configurations, and SQL server.
- Ability to conduct system analyses, risk assessments, and trade studies.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Excellent communication and documentation skills for technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Industry certifications such as VMware VCP, Microsoft Certified (MCSA/MCSE), or RHCE are a plus.
