The Suffolk County Water Authority is seeking a Fleet Coordinator to support the overall operations of the Transportation Department and the General Services Division. Under the guidance of the Assistant Fleet Manager and Fleet Manager, this position will assist in the administration, inventory, and operations of the Fleet Department.

Description:

 

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain inventory of parts, supplies, and equipment and recommend orders as necessary.
  • Conduct quarterly cycle counts of inventory and oversee annual audit for parts.
  • Support administrative responsibilities of the department.
  • Coordinate repairs and preventive maintenance for light duty vehicles.
  • Provides guidance and supervision to second shift mechanic workforce.
  • Manages the Authority’s disposal of surplus vehicles & equipment through the established vehicle auction process.
  • Coordinate scheduled maintenance and repairs of light duty vehicles with outside contract vendors and manufacturer’s recalls and warranty work with area dealerships.
  • Coordinate and control Fleet Services’ pool vehicle usage.
  • Works with NYS DMV to register new vehicles, acquire titles and turn in retired vehicle plates.
  • Ensures fleet yard and boneyard are safe and organized.

 

Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree required; Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Logistics Management, or Automotive Technology preferred.
  • 1-2 years’ experience in fleet administration or automotive repair required; 3-5 years’ experience preferred.
  • Proficient with all Microsoft Office applications.
  • Extremely organized and efficient in time management.
  • Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills necessary to develop and maintain relationships with internal stakeholders and external vendors/contractors, and customers.
  • Must possess a strong work ethic with the ability to learn and adapt as needs of the department change.
  • A valid driver’s license is required; existing valid CDL B is highly preferred – would be required to obtain in the first 6 months of employment.
  • Knowledge of SAP and fleet management software is preferred.
  • CDL A license is preferred.

 

Hours for this position will be Monday to Friday from 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Hours may be adjusted by 1-2 hours in either direction if the department requires.
