Description:

The Suffolk County Water Authority is seeking an Assistant Pipeline Engineer for the Construction-Maintenance Department located in Oakdale, NY. The successful candidate will be responsible for the planning and oversight of water installation main projects.

Responsibilities include:
• Oversee and inspect the installation of water main by contractors.
• Provide instructions to contractors including modifying drawings and issuing materials.
• Create field sketch measurements for proposed water main.
• Develop as-builts and valve sketches of installed water mains.
• Coordinate water main installation with appropriate municipal agencies and representatives.
• Research various areas for potential water main improvements.
• Conduct and work in a professional manner to resolve construction conflicts with contractors.
• Perform other engineering tasks associated with construction/installation of water main.

Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or related field.
• 1-2 years of working knowledge of construction industry, specifically water supply.
• Ability to read and understand construction drawings and contract documents.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills; strong organizational skills, proficient in MS Office
• Ability to interface with contractors and work outdoors.
• Candidate must possess a valid NY State driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications:
• EIT Certification or eligibility.
• Experience with AutoCAD, GIS or equivalent software.

Hours for the position will be Monday to Friday from 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. (hours may change based on needs of department to 7:00 a.m. -3:30 p.m.).
