The Suffolk County Water Authority is seeking an Assistant Fleet Manager to work closely with the manager to ensure the most effective acquisition, maintenance and disposal of Authority vehicles and equipment.

 

Responsibilities:

 

·         Review mechanics’ labor documents and parts room logs to ensure accuracy

 

·         Coordinate accident repairs with user department and vendor representatives

 

·         Work with Risk Management to obtain accident damage repair estimates to review for accuracy

 

·         Prepare Fleet Services yearly capital tool budget in collaboration with the fleet mechanics

 

·         Assume responsibility for daily fleet services physical and clerical operations in the fleet manager’s absence

 

·         Maintain sense of urgency and sensitivity to internal customers needs and vehicle and equipment requirements

 

Qualifications:

 

·         10 years management experience within mechanical field

 

·         In-depth knowledge and understanding of fleet administrative processes, material procurement, inventory control, shop operations and maintenance principles for light and heavy duty vehicles and equipment are essential

 

·         Knowledge of the laws and regulations related to Commercial Motor Vehicle operation

 

·         Excellent skills in problem solving and written and verbal communication

 

·         Bachelors Degree preferred

 

·         Valid driver’s license required, CDL class A license or ability to obtain preferred

 

·         Must have the ability to work independently, prioritize workload and formulate new or alternative strategies to achieve organizational goals

Work week for this position will be Monday-Friday 8:00am-5:00pm. Schedule subject to change based on operational needs of the department.
