The Suffolk County Water Authority has an opportunity for an Accountant in our Finance Department in Coram. The successful candidate will perform professional accounting responsibilities with the ability to plan, initiate and complete work assignments independently.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare necessary journal entries by compiling and analyzing account information.
- Analyze capital and operating budgets; monitor actual expenditures to annual budgeted amounts.
- Assist with grant reporting and accounting related matters.
- Prepare financial analysis and reports for internal and external use.
- Support the monthly and annual general ledger closes processes.
- Develop and document business processes and policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls.
- Reconcile financial discrepancies through account analysis.
- Comply with GASB (Government Accounting Standards Board) pronouncements, enforcing adherence to requirements.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting required.
- 1-5 years accounting experience preferred.
- Knowledge of GAAP practices and procedures.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite; intermediate knowledge of Excel at minimum.
- Self-starter with excellent follow-up and communication skills.

Applicant’s typical work schedule will be Monday - Friday 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Salary for this position will be commensurate with education and experience within a range of $70-80K.
