Description:

The Suffolk County Water Authority has a highly skilled Engineering Department that is constantly engaged in making improvements to water production, storage, and treatment facilities throughout the service territory - spanning from Amityville to Montauk. Engineers at SCWA work in a variety of capacities performing detailed engineering, project management, and construction observation/supervision. This dynamic environment provides the opportunity for both office and field work. SCWA is currently seeking a Surveyor/CAD designer within the Engineering Department. This position is responsible for supporting design and construction work as it relates to SCWA’s 75 Million dollar capital program.
Responsibilities Include:
• Obtaining survey topographic data and utilizing the latest technological equipment to be used in the design, layout and engineering of well fields and structures which includes reconciling survey data collected to design and draft detailed construction drawings.
• Preparing and/or reviewing property easement written property descriptions and drawings which include reconciling survey data collected to design and draft detailed construction drawings.
• Stake out of property lines, wells, various types of buildings, pipelines, electric conduit runs, fence lines and driveways.
• Responsible for ascertaining property lines, easement lines and determining encroachments.
• Layout and design of well fields along with designing and drafting detailed filtration system piping and well field yard piping.
• Preparing and administering contracts and construction drawings for the installation of well field yard piping.
• Prepare contract specifications, construction drawings and administering contracts for the installation of yard piping along with supervising and inspecting contractors and/or SCWA forces during construction of pipelines and grading.
• Reviews invoices and write service entry sheets for payment for approval by supervisor
Qualifications:
• Associates Degree in Civil Technology, Construction Technology or related field required.
• 3 years’ land/construction surveying experience, or equivalent education, required.
• Minimum 3 years’ experience of construction design and CAD Drafting required.
• Knowledge of piping systems and an understanding of construction practices.
• Ability to effectively communicate with colleagues, contractors, vendors and possibly the public.
• Proficiency in MS Office, AutoCAD, GPS and Data Collectors.
• An understanding of the methodology of transcribing field conditions onto maps and map requirements into real site developments.
