Summary:
The Suffolk County Water Authority is seeking a Laboratory Technician I for our Laboratory Department located in Hauppauge, NY. The Laboratory Technician I supports the efforts of the Laboratory team by performing and/or helping with Laboratory based tasks, which include but are not limited to physical measurement, recording results, and maintaining records. The work week for this position will be Monday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Description:
Responsibilities include:
- Performs manual tasks such as cleaning work areas, cleaning and sterilizing Laboratory ware, moving equipment, stocking supplies, disposing of waste, and lifting boxes.
- Monitors and records specific parameters for the Laboratory support equipment such as temperatures for refrigerators, ovens, incubators, water baths; and calibration results for balances, pH meters, conductivity meters and volumetric dispensing devices.
- Regularly monitors inventory of sample containers, chemicals, and solvents.
- Prepares bottles and bottles sets for sample collection, orders resample, receives samples and distributes them to appropriate areas of the lab.
- Documents all activities and determined parameters in Laboratory logbooks and electronically following specific Laboratory procedures.
- Assists in recording validated data and is largely responsible for filing and organizing analytical and quality control records in appropriate locations.
- This position’s LIMS responsibilities are assigned according to job functions.
- Provides feedback to the supervisory staff and team members regarding the status of his/her work.
- This position may be asked to assist other Laboratory employees and provide support in various Laboratory activities as needed.
Qualifications:
- A.S. or A.A.S. degree in science preferred.
- Good communication skills are a necessity for the Technician I, who must often work in different Laboratory areas at the same time.
- The ability to perform assigned tasks by adhering to the appropriate technical and quality control procedures, quality assurance policies, and health and safety guidelines is required.
- Experience in a water-testing laboratory preferred.
