For the third year in a row, the Suffolk County Water Authority has been recognized as having the best tasting water in Suffolk County by Long Islanders participating in the Long Island Water Conference’s annual Best Tasting Water Contest at Farmingdale State College. The contest is part of National Drinking Water Week, which celebrates the importance of water.
“I am pleased to congratulate the Suffolk County Water Authority on their accomplishment in this year’s Best Tasting Water Contest,” said Long Island Water Conference Chairman Michael Levy. “The contest is an excellent way to involve many residents of Long Island in the celebration of National Drinking Water Week.”
SCWA also was named best tasting water on all of Long Island in a similar contest in 2013, the only time in the past three years the Suffolk and Nassau winners of the LIWC contest have competed against each other. In this year’s Suffolk contest, SCWA water was chosen over four other finalists by a wide margin—SCWA received 44 out of 129 votes, while the next closest competitor received 30 votes.
“It’s gratifying to be recognized for the taste of our water,” said SCWA Chief Executive Officer. “But our primary concern will always be to make sure the water we provide is safe and delivered in the most cost-effective manner possible.”
The Suffolk County Water Authority is an independent public-benefit corporation operating under the authority of the Public Authorities Law of the State of New York. Serving approximately 1.2 million Suffolk County residents, the Authority operates without taxing power on a not-for-profit basis.
