Contractors perform water main replacement work in Bay Shore as part of an infrastructure project.
The Suffolk County Water Authority began work to replace approximately 4,300 feet of aging water main along North Thompson Drive in Bay Shore. The project was part of SCWA’s ongoing commitment to strengthening water infrastructure across Suffolk County and improving service reliability for customers.
The existing pipe had experienced numerous breaks in recent years, leading to the decision to replace it with more durable ductile iron water main.
“This replacement provided Bay Shore residents with a more reliable water supply and helped prevent service interruptions caused by main breaks,” said SCWA Chief Executive Officer Jeff Szabo. “Upgrading our water main across Suffolk County was a critical investment in the future of our system and the communities we serve.”
Following the completion of work on the water main, the road has been temporarily restored. A permanent repaving will be completed by SCWA in the late fall or spring of 2026, depending on conditions on the ground.
