Changes in our water rates will take effect on June 1, 2021.
Full Summary of Rate Changes:
SCWA’s quarterly service charge was increased from $27.91 per quarter to $29.17 per quarter. Our standard water consumption rate was increased from $1.518 per centi-cubic-foot (CCF) to $1.586 per CCF. Our conservation water rate was increased from $2.190 per CCF to $2.289 per CCF. Only customers who use more than 120 CCF in a single billing quarter will be affected by the conservation water rate. (see chart below)
Raising the Conservation Rate Threshold:
After listening to comments from our customers, the board increased the usage threshold customers would have to reach before paying the conservation rate from 105 CCF per quarter to 120 CCF per quarter. (see chart below)
To give customers additional relief, the board also approved a two-month delay in the start of the new rate. Customers will not pay the new rate until June 1; in the past, rate increases have gone into effect on April 1.
SCWA is an independent public-benefit corporation operating under the authority of the Public Authorities Law of the State of New York, meaning we operate without taxing power on a not-for-profit basis. Through this new rate structure and the measures outlined above, we are doing everything possible to both pay for the vital service we provide and look after the needs of our customers.
