SCWA Takes Top Honor
At Water Tasting Contest

Water from the Suffolk County Water Authority has been honored as the tastiest in Suffolk County following a contest between local water providers sponsored by the Long Island Water Conference.

The Water Conference on Tuesday hosted their 27th annual “Best Tasting Water Contest” at Farmingdale State College. During the course of the day, students and others stopping in to a café on the school’s campus were invited to choose between four unidentified water samples from Suffolk water suppliers, including SCWA. SCWA’s water was chosen as the best of the four.

“We’re delighted that our water was chosen for its excellent taste, but our top priority is making sure it’s pure and safe,” said Suffolk County Water Authority Chief Executive Officer Jeff Szabo. “Our water is tested constantly and surpasses internal standards that are even more rigorous than the tough New York State and EPA regulations.”

“I am pleased to congratulate the Suffolk County Water Authority on this much-deserved achievement of being voted Suffolk County’s best tasting water,” said Water Conference Chair Frank Koch. “This contest in celebration of National Drinking Water Week allows residents to sample all of the great tasting water not just in their town, but throughout Long Island. The contest emphasizes the importance of protecting the purity and availability of this vital resource.”

Next, water from SCWA will face off with the Nassau winner, the Plainview Water District, on an as yet undetermined date to determine which supplier has the best tasting water on Long Island.

The Suffolk County Water Authority is an independent public-benefit corporation operating under the authority of the Public Authorities Law of the State of New York. Serving approximately 1.2 million Suffolk County residents, the Authority operates without taxing power on a not-for-profit basis.
