SCWA, Stony Brook Students, Join Forces To Beautify Pump Station for Earth Day
Representatives of the Suffolk County Water Authority joined with "Eco Leaders" from Stony Brook University on Wednesday to beautify an SCWA pump station located on Daniel Webster Drive adjacent to the university's campus in celebration of Earth Day.
The students from various ecologically-minded school clubs and programs, joined SCWA employees to plant river birch trees, eastern redbuds and various native plants.
"Every year on Earth Day we try to partner with students interested in environmental preservation and sustainability to beautify one of our pump stations with plantings," said SCWA Chief of Sustainability Carrie Meek Gallagher. "Stony Brook's dedication to sustainability is commendable and we hope to collaborate on future initiatives with their 'Eco Leaders' to prevent pollution of our groundwater."
The Suffolk County Water Authority is an independent public-benefit corporation operating under the authority of the Public Authorities Law of the State of New York. Serving approximately 1.2 million Suffolk County residents, the Authority operates without taxing power on a not-for-profit-basis.
