The Suffolk County Water Authority (SCWA) has rescinded the Stage 1 Water Alert, which called on East End residents to voluntarily reduce water usage.

“Since the July 4th weekend, the Authority has pumped at record levels of 500,000 gallons of water per minute,” said SCWA CEO Jeffrey Szabo. “Though the demand for water in Suffolk County was high, the Authority met the needs of the residents.”

The Authority carefully monitored Southampton and the East End and urged customers to reduce lawn watering and refrain from car washing or similar non-essential water usage. The Authority also requested that customers water during the non-peak demand hours of between 6 am and midnight.

“The help of our customers assisted in preventing any major equipment malfunction during the peak summer days,” concluded SCWA Chairman James Gaughran. “We will continue to monitor and assess the demand for water as the summer comes to an end.”
