The Suffolk County Water Authority on Tuesday began work on a scheduled two-day project to replace 1,465 feet of 90-year-old water main on North Road and Woodland Park Road in Bellport to improve fire protection and water pressure in the area.
The project, part of SCWA’s initiative to bolster infrastructure throughout its service territory, involves the replacement of pipe installed in 1927 with larger ductile iron pipe. In addition to improving the distribution of water in the neighborhood, the new 8-inch pipe will increase water pressure—and therefore enhance the ability of local firefighters to fight fires—and provide increased protection against water main breaks.
"Our investments in water main replacement and other infrastructure improvements throughout our service territory help us to directly improve customer service," said SCWA Chief Executive Officer Jeffrey W. Szabo.

The Suffolk County Water Authority is an independent public-benefit corporation operating under the authority of the Public Authorities Law of the State of New York. Serving approximately 1.2 million Suffolk County residents, the Authority operates without taxing power on a not-for-profit basis.
