The Suffolk County Water Authority last week began work on a major water main replacement on Deer Park Avenue in Babylon Village that will bring improved reliability, water pressure and fire protection to the downtown area.
“This water main replacement project exemplifies SCWA’s support of infrastructure improvements that benefit small businesses and the residents in the surrounding community,” said SCWA Chief Executive Officer Jeffrey W. Szabo. “Babylon Village is home to a thriving downtown and SCWA is proud to support its continued success.”
Stretching from the intersection of Montauk Highway and Deer Park Avenue to Village Line Road, the project will replace old, undersized water main with 6, 8 and 12 inch ductile iron pipe. In total, more than 6,000 feet of water main will be replaced. The project began on May 12 and is expected to be wrapped up by the second week in June.
“Reliable water service is a necessity that Babylon Village’s business owners and residents count on,” said Mayor Ralph Scordino. “SCWA’s proactive approach to improving its infrastructure is greatly appreciated.”
“As any business owner will tell you, reliability and courtesy are key elements to a thriving business,” said Robert Palumbo, Vice-President, Babylon Village Chamber of Commerce. “SCWA is doing a major project in our downtown area and they have done that with sensitivity to the needs of all the Village businesses along Deer Park Avenue.”
The Suffolk County Water Authority is an independent public-benefit corporation operating under the authority of the Public Authorities Law of the State of New York. Serving approximately 1.2 million Suffolk County residents, the Authority operates without taxing power on a not-for-profit basis.
