On May 24, 2010, the Board of the Suffolk County Water Authority (SCWA) appointed Jeffrey Szabo as the new Chief Executive Officer. On June 1, he will take over for Stephen Jones, who will be retiring.

"I am truly honored to be named Chief Executive Officer by the Board of the Suffolk County Water Authority,” said Szabo. “I very much look forward to working with Chairman Gaughran and the other members of the board in continuing to streamline the Authority's operations while providing the best possible water at the lowest possible cost."

Since July 2009, Szabo has served as Special Projects Coordinator at the Suffolk County Water Authority. He has been involved in every aspect of the Water Authority’s operation and management. He developed and implemented goals and objectives for 2010 designed to make the SCWA more efficient and transparent, as well as crafted the 2010-2011 SCWA budget. Prior to the Water Authority, Szabo served as Deputy County Executive and Chief of Staff for Suffolk County, NY. At 37, Szabo is one of the youngest CEOs of a New York State Authority.

“Jeff Szabo’s proven track record of accomplishments makes us confident in his ability to lead the Authority,” said newly appointed SCWA Chairman James Gaughran. “We anticipate his leadership skills and promising vision will successfully guide the Authority in the future.”

“Since joining SCWA in July 2009, I have had the opportunity to get acclimated and learn the ins and outs of what I now know is a stellar organization,” Szabo concluded. “I'm excited to assume leadership and continue to take the SCWA into new areas of growth and opportunity all the while never taking our eye off providing residents with quality drinking water.”
