The Suffolk County Water Authority encountered no significant water supply issues as a result of the punishing winter storm that blanketed Long Island last night and this morning.
“As with Superstorm Sandy, our extensive preparations and emergency planning led to minimal service interruptions,” said SCWA Chairman James F. Gaughran. “Our distribution system is fully operational.”
Gaughran urged Suffolk residents to continue to keep hydrants in their neighborhood clear of snow to ensure that firefighters can connect equipment without delay in the event of a fire.
Gaughran also urged SCWA customers to call SCWA Customer Service at (631) 698-9500, and not Suffolk County’s Emergency Operations Center, to report a water service outage or water main break.
The Suffolk County Water Authority is an independent public-benefit corporation operating under the authority of the Public Authorities Law of the State of New York. Serving approximately 1.2 million Suffolk County residents, the Authority operates without taxing power on a not-for-profit basis.
