The Suffolk County Water Authority this week added 3,437 feet of new 12” water main connecting water main from the intersection of Montauk Highway and Caswell Road to water main on East Lake Drive, thereby linking pipe from east and west of Lake Montauk and providing additional pressure and protection against service interruption for Montauk residents east of the lake.

The project, which began Monday, April 7 and is expected to be finished early next week, provides a second water main to the eastern portion of Montauk. Currently, the only pipe serving the area runs beneath the inlet to East Lake Drive.

“Though we’ve been able to fulfill the water supply needs of the eastern end of Montauk to date, adding a second pipe will provide an extra layer of security,” said SCWA Chief Executive Officer Jeffrey W. Szabo. “It’s a substantial commitment to our customers in this portion of our service territory.”

The project also adds approximately 24 new customers along the route of the new water main, which runs adjacent to Montauk Highway and East Lake Drive to Ranch Court.

The Suffolk County Water Authority is an independent public-benefit corporation operating under the authority of the Public Authorities Law of the State of New York. Serving approximately 1.2 million Suffolk County residents, the Authority operates without taxing power on a not-for-profit basis.
