The Suffolk County Legislature on Tuesday reappointed former Suffolk County Executive Patrick G. Halpin to the Suffolk County Water Authority Board.

Halpin, who co-authored a series of reform initiatives promoting transparency, accountability and efficiency shortly after his initial appointment in 2006, was appointed to a third five-year term. During his tenure on the board, Halpin has played a leading role in helping to position the Authority to thrive in the 21st Century through key technological advancements, vital infrastructure improvements and rigorous water quality standards.

"The Suffolk County Water Authority and its ratepayers will benefit greatly from the continued presence of Pat Halpin," said SCWA Board Chairman James F. Gaughran. "His intelligence, tenacity and demand for accountability have made him integral to our continued success."

"Pat Halpin, from day one, has approached his role on the SCWA Board with vigor," said SCWA Chief Executive Officer Jeffrey W. Szabo. "He has made it his mission to make sure we operate at maximum efficiency and provide great drinking water to our customers."

"The Suffolk County Water Authority supplies some of the best water on Earth, while maintaining extremely high bond ratings and low water rates," Halpin said. "I thank the Legislature for their support and look forward to continuing to work with the Board to make sure that we are fully prepared to meet all future challenges."

The Suffolk County Water Authority is an independent public-benefit corporation operating under the authority of the Public Authorities Law of the State of New York.  Serving approximately 1.2 million Suffolk County residents, the Authority operates without taxing power on a not-for-profit basis.
