The Suffolk County Water Authority is replacing water main on Center Bay Drive in West Islip. Approximately 1,400 feet of aging water main will be replaced with new, more durable polyvinyl chloride (PVC) pipes. This project aims to provide more reliable water service while improving distribution and fire protection to the community.
“South shore communities like this one are more likely to see main breaks that disrupt service to our customers,” said SCWA Chairman Charles Lefkowitz. “This upgrade not only reduces that risk but also enhances fire flow capabilities, ensuring the safety of the community.”
Center Bay Drive is a residential street where dependable water service is crucial for daily needs and emergency response. Once completed, the area will be less prone to main breaks, which increase in the cold winter months. This project is expected to be completed in the coming weeks.
This project is part of SCWA’s ongoing effort to modernize its water delivery system across Suffolk County, addressing aging infrastructure and proactively preventing service disruptions.
