The Suffolk County Water Authority is seeking a Purchasing Clerk in our Purchasing Department located in Oakdale, NY. The hours for this position are 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Job Description and Details:
- Works closely with department staff to complete the various tasks associated with the Purchasing Department. Tasks will vary from routine clerical to complex reconciliation of information submitted by outside sources.
- Maintains purchasing information electronically and physically such as contracts, memos, and vendor data.
- Responds to inquiries from a variety of internal and external sources.
- Receives and greets vendors for bid openings, vendor introductions, etc.
- Frequent email and phone correspondence with vendors and internal customers to ensure necessary documentation is received within predetermined deadlines.
- Witness public bid openings conducted by the department, gather data and distribute tabulations internally and externally.
- Frequent updates and maintenance of data in SAP and 3rd party procurement management system.
- Responsible for completing special projects in an expeditious manner.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- 1-2 years of purchasing experience highly preferred.
- Extensive knowledge of MS Office, along with strong typing and math skills.
- Knowledge of SAP preferred.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, as well as excellent interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work in teams while being self-motivated.
- Strong multitasking and organizational skills
- Ability to work through frequent interruptions and changing priorities.
- Possess an optimistic, can-do approach to all tasks and responsibilities
- Ability to work under tight deadlines
