The Suffolk County Water Authority recently participated in a joint operational exercise at an SCWA pump station in Hauppauge with the New York State Army National Guard 24th Civil Support Team (CST), which provides a rapid response capability to chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, high explosive and other man-made or natural disaster events. The exercise, believed to be one of the first of its kind, involved having a mock intruder seeking to threaten the water supply to test CST members response protocols. In this photo, two members of the CST prepare to enter a building at the pump station to address the mock threat.Said SCWA Chief Executive Officer Jeff Szabo about the exercise, “Ensuring the safety of the drinking water supply from all potential threats is of paramount importance to the Suffolk County Water Authority, and so we were proud to assist the Guard in this important training exercise.”
